Project Background

The Project INSPIRE initiative by ASSIST and Stellantis is founded on the urgent need to address India’s widening high-tech skill gap amidst a global push for digitalization and sustainability.

A background to the project stems from the global recognition that creating a future-ready workforce is essential for economic growth, upskilling is projected to significantly boost global GDP. In India specifically, upskilling an estimated 150 million workers by 2030 is critical due to rapid digitalization. However, despite having a large youth demographic, India faces a substantial skill deficit in high-tech industries. The data highlights a severe preparation gap: only 25% of ITI/Polytechnic graduates currently meet employment standards, largely due to a deficiency in practical skills.

The project directly targets a critical shortcoming in current education systems: the failure of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs to adequately integrate essential modern skills.Traditional education systems have lagged behind industry needs, creating a mismatch, particularly in innovative fields like Electric Vehicles (EV), Automation, and Mechatronics areas projected to generate high employment demand globally. To address this crisis, ASSIST proposed Project INSPIRE to offer targeted vocational training to ITI and polytechnic students and graduates.

The initiative aims to embed a broad range of necessary skills, including core technical expertise and crucial soft skills, directly into vocational education. This comprehensive approach ensures the workforce is not only technically proficient but also prepared to lead in global competition and sustainable practices, thereby fostering both economic growth and social inclusivity.
